Former PBA import Smith, 51


MANILA, Philippines – Former Philippine Basketball Association import Darryl Smith died of a heart attack Tuesday night. He was 51. Smith played for 2 PBA teams – Great Taste (1979) and Winston (1983) -- and then permanently settled in Cebu after his competitive years. He was widely known as a scoring import, averaging 37 points and 13 rebounds while playing for the Coffee Makers in two conferences and normed 27.5 points and 16 rebounds in two games with Winston. According to reports, Smith suffered cardiac arrest after playing a game in Liloan, Cebu, where he had been based for a long time now. – GMANews.TV
