RP picks up 2 more wins in Olympic exhibition wushu

MANILA, Philippines – What the regular Filipino Olympians can’t do their wushu counterparts are doing better. Two more RP wushu athletes secured bronze medals in the demonstration sport after Benjie Rivera and Mary Jane Estimar defeated their opening-phase opponents Friday at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium. Rivera beat Kamel Mohamed of Egypt 2-0 in the men’s 56kg sanshou (combat) event, while Estimar won over Ambra Vielmi of Italy 2-1 in the 52kg sanshou. On Thursday, Marian Mariano also assured herself of a bronze by making the semifinals in the 60kg sanshou category. Estimar vowed to improve on her showing as the tournament progresses. “I [wasn’t] satisfied with my performance at all," Estimar said. “I didn’t wrestle well and I think I need to improve on that." – GMANews.TV
