Chinese guard Sun signs with Lakers
EL SEGUNDO, California â Chinese guard Sun Yue signed a multiyear contract with the National Basketball Associational (NBA) finalist Los Angeles Lakers. Terms of the deal were not announced. The 23-year-old, 2.06-meter (6-foot-9) Sun was taken with the 40th overall selection by the Lakers in last year's draft. He averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.33 steals in six games for China in the Olympic Games in Beijing. Sun played for the Beijing Aoshen Olympians of the American Basketball Association for the past three seasons, and was a first-team All-ABA selection each of the last two years. The ABA is a seven-year-old pro league with teams in the Bahamas, Canada, Mexico but mostly the United States. The Beijing Olympians, which formerly competed in the Chinese Basketball Association, played in Maywood, California, while in the ABA. â AP
