Ateneo de Davao dumps SMAD
DAVAO CITY, Philippines - The Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU)-Team A thrashed Stella Maris Academy of Davao (SMAD), 75-20, in the girls event of the 6th Gaisano South (GS) Cup held at the GS SkyGym over the weekend. Trisha Anne Piatos, reigning most valuable player (MVP), lived up to expectations as she steered the Carlo Salvador-coached squad to the rousing victory with 14 points and four assists. Piatos' teammates Krystine Cloe Timtim and Tara Araneta added 14 and eight points, respectively, to lift the AdDU-Team A to victory in the cagefest sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (BAP-SBP) regional director Regino "Boy" Cua. But, Ateneo's junior team was not as lucky as it suffered a heartbreaking 51-53 loss to Southern Philippines Polytechnic College Inc. (SPPC) in their junior division 1 match. Ronald Bangoy top-scored for SPPCI with 13 points. He also grabbed 12 rebounds to be named best player of the game. Ateneo's Linus Evangelio, meanwhile, led his team with 15 markers. In the mini division, Ateneo also lost at the hands of the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), 41-89, while Holy Chold School of Davao crushed Magallanes Elementary School (MES), 81-49. Forward Ronald Bangoy had a double-double performance for SPPCI drilling in 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. The St. Therese College of Science and Technology overwhelmed Ford Academy of the Arts, 101-62, to keep its title-retention bid alive in junior division 2. - Sun.Star Davao
