Ex-MVP Yap has minor sprain in Purefoods preseason win

MANILA, Philippines – Purefoods experienced nervous moments in a preseason game Saturday when James Yap twisted his right ankle versus Barangay Ginebra at the packed San Beda Gym. Yap left in the early goings of the third quarter after he landed awkwardly off a tough shot. Ryan Gregorio was informed later that it was only a minor sprain. "It's certainly music to my ear that James wasn't badly hurt," the Purefoods coach said. Purefoods rode the heroics of Kerby Raymundo and Peter June Simon to hack an 83-82 victory. Raymundo finished with 24 points, while Simon had 14. Yap had 13 points before leaving at the 7:28 mark of the third. Ginebra was without stars Mark Caguioa, Jay-Jay Helterbrand and Eric Menk. The Kings also missed the services of veterans Junthy Valenzuela and Rafi Reavis. Alex Crisano and Jun-Jun Cabatu scored 13 each to lead the Kings. Purefoods takes on the court again Monday when the Giants face the Alaska Aces at the Arellano Gym. – GMANews.TV
