Serbian coach can help RP basketball by sharing knowledge, says Jawo
MANILA, Philippines â Philippine basketballâs âLiving Legend" Robert âSonny" Jaworski Sr. said the only way Serbian coach Rajko Toroman would better help Philippine basketball is if he imparts his knowledge to Filipino coaches. Jaworski made the statement when he graced the SCOOP sa Kamayan Forum at Padre Faura on Friday. Jaworski also believes that Filipino coaches are more than qualified to handle the Philippine team that will be tasked in reviving the countryâs lost basketball glory starting with the 2009 South East Asian Games in Laos next year, the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and a slot in the 2012 London Olympics. âWhat will be better for Philippine basketball is to have a seminar composed of qualified local coaches to be trained for a certain number of days by Toroman. That way, we can produce hundreds of top coaches," said Jaworski. The former Senator was the coach of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) team that competed in the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, China where they settled for the silver behind the hosts. The performance still is the best output since the PBA decided to lend its players in forming the national team. âThere is no short cut to success. The only problem is other countries like China, Korea, Japan, they did the right things a long time ago. We are just starting to do the right thing so we should not expect good results right away," said Jaworski. â GMANews.TV
