Busy year for Pinoy finswimmers


MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Finswimming Federation Inc. (PFFI) will have a busy 2009 ahead of them they prepare for two international competitions. First for the PFFI is the 2nd International Philippine Finswimming Competition, which kicks off Saturday at the Amoranto swimming pool at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City. A total of 211 participants from host Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Italy will be vying for top honors in 44 events when competition starts at 9:00 a.m. Next for the PFFI is the 2009 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vientianne, Laos from December 13 to 25. PFFI secretary general Mary Anne Reyes said this will be the second time that finswimming will be included in the aquatics event of the 28 sports disciplines lined up for the 25th edition of the biennial meet. The Philippines will be making their debut in Laos but the PFFI has already sent athletes in several international competitions in Korea and Macau. Finswimming made its SEA Games debut during the 2003 Vietnam conclave and was again included in the 2007 edition when Thailand hosted the 24th meet. – GMANews.TV
