UAAP football: La Salle women take early lead in standings
MANILA, Philippines â La Salle defeated University of Santo Tomas, 2-1, Thursday to take the early lead in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) womenâs football tournament at the Ateneo field. Samantha Nierras and Jessica Ryon scored the goals for the Lady Archers after allowing the Tigers to draw first blood early in the game. The Lady Archers picked up their second win after winning over University of the Philippines, 1-0, in Sundayâs opening. Mary Ignacio gave UST a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute but Nierras quickly equalized the match two minutes after before Ryon gave La Salle the lead in the 35th minute. The Tigresses, who debuted with a 3-1 win over Ateneo last Sunday, took second spot with 1-0-1 win-draw-loss card. In the other game, reigning champion Far Eastern University opened its title defense with a scoreless draw against Ateneo. The Lady Eagles have a 0-1-1 win-draw-loss mark. Action resumes on Sunday with Ateneo facing La Salle at 1:00 p.m. and UP facing FEU at 3:00 p.m. at the Ateneo field. â GMANews.TV
