UAAP football: UP draws Ateneo, keeps lead in men’s division
MANILA, Philippines â University of the Philippines forced a 1-1 draw with Ateneo Sunday to keep its lead in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) menâs football tournament at the Ateneo field. Stephen Permanes scored the tying goal in the 73rd minute giving the Fighting Maroons 14 points (4-2-0 win-draw-loss) in the standings. Alejandro Rivera scored early for Ateneo in the fifth minute but the Blue Eagles failed to sustain their momentum and remain winless after six games. They have two points (0-2-4 win-draw-loss) in the standings. In other matches, Nico Laluces scored the lone goal the 61st minute as La Salle escaped with a 1-0 victory over University of the East. The Green Archers are in second place with 13 points (4-1-1 win-draw-loss). Defending champion Far Eastern University beat University of Santo Tomas, 1-0, as the Tamaraws tied the Tigers in the standings with eight points (2-2-2 win-draw-loss). Raymund Buensucesoâs strike in the 39th minute gave the Tamaraws the victory. In womenâs play, FEU improved to nine points (2-3-0 win-draw-loss) after a 3-0 crushing of Ateneo. Reigning most valuable player Ruchelle Latap booted a goal in the 43rd minute while Karol Barrientos and Hannah Campo sealed the win in the 74th and 85th minute. UST leaned on a late goal by Marianne Narciso in injury time to beat UP, 1-0. The Tigresses now have 10 points (3-1-1 win-draw-loss) to tie idle De La Salle in the standings. â GMANews.TV
