Canlubang shoots for PAL Interclub history
MANILA, Philippines â Canlubang Golf and Country Club shoots for its fourth straight title in the seniors division of the 62nd Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub which tees off Thursday at the Apo Golf and Country and Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club courses in Davao City. Canlubang, which will again be bannered by veteran leader Tommy Manotoc, Dave Hernandez and Rolando Viray, won a historic third straight title in Bacolod City last year beating 13-time champion Luisita by a huge 20-point margin. As a strategy, team captains would not divulge the names of players they would field every round. And Canlubang skipper Luigi Yulo is no different from the rest but if one goes over the playersâ list, the Sweet Swingers from Canlubang are the heavy favorites. Completing the Canlubang roster are Jose Mari Hechanova, Philip Brodett, Eriberto Bunye, Tony Olives and Jose Luis Yulo. This year, however, it may not be the same situation as former champ Luisita formed a formidable unit as it tries to regain lost glory in the highly-anticipated tournament that has lured a total of 151 local and foreign teams from the United States, Canada, Australia, China, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. Luisita captain Iggy Clavecilla will be at the forefront of his teamâs campaign. He will have Philippine Sports Commission commissioner Richie Garcia, King Sumulong, Pepot Iñigo, Freddie Mendoza, Francis Gaston and Bong De Guzman as teammates. âOur team is strong but I wonât say that we will be cruising easily this week. Weâll work hard to get win No. 14," said Luisita manager Joey Romasanta. â GMANews.TV
