FEU XI gains twice-to-beat edge in UAAP finals
MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Far Eastern University shut out University of the East, 3-0, to gain the twice-to-beat advantage in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) menâs football finals. The Tamaraws will wield their win-once edge when they face University of the Philippines in the finals on Thursday, 2 p.m. at the Ateneo field. Francis Gustillo came through early with a goal in the first minute while Romnick Jover and Glester Sobremisana scored in 60th and 80th minutes, respectively, to lead the FEU onslaught. With the win, the Tamaraws finished the regular season on top with 20 points on six wins, two draws and two losses and snared the finals incentive. The UP booters actually had the chance to snare the twice-to-beat finals incentive but failed to do so in a must-win game with La Salle earlier. The Maroons were forced to a scoreless draw by the Green Archers, thus settling for a second-best 19 points on five wins, four draws and one loss. In the other match, Ateneo beat University of Santo Tomas, 3-0. After the eliminations, De La Salle took third spot with 14 points on four wins, two draws and two losses followed by UST with 11 points on three wins, two draws and five defeats. Ateneo landed fifth spot with nine points on two wins, three draws and five losses, tying UE. -GMANews.TV
