Isabela athletes to represent Region II in Palarong Pambansa


MANILA, Philippines – Isabela athletes are heading to the Palarong Pambansa (National Games) in April after emerging as the Region II champions in the recently concluded regional athletic meet in Quirino. Isabela will represent Region II in the 2009 edition of the annual youth games which will be held at the Leyte Sports Development Center in Tacloban City from April 26 to May 2. Regional games organizer Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (Cavraa) honored the winning junior athletes who bested other participants from the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Cagayan, Batanes and the cities of Santiago, Cauayan and Tuguegarao. Isabela’s elementary division garnered 364 points in all events followed by Nueva Vizcaya’s 296.5 points. Cagayan tallied 222 points while host province Quirino only collected 147points. In the secondary division, Isabela retained its wide lead by acquiring 351 points against Cagayan’s 293.5 while Nueva Vizcaya, which will be hosting next year’s Cavraa regional tournament, settled for third with 292.5. The three-day Cavraa meet which was held in Quirino, opened on Friday with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) secretary Joselito Atienza as its guest speaker. – GMANews.TV
