UAAP: UST troupe wins cheerdance contest


The University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe bested on Sunday six other schools to win this year’s 2006 Non-Stop Cheer Dance Competition before a jampacked crowd at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe scored 94.96 points to bag the crown plus a check for P150, 000. This is the fifth-straight time that UST won the cheering competition sponsored by Nestle Non-Stop Ice Cream. The Far Eastern University Cheering Squad, meanwhile, bagged the second prize with a score of 93.2 points. They won a trophy plus a check for P90, 000. The University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad, who at one time won three-straight cheering titles, from 1999 to 2001, placed 3rd spot with a score of 92 points. They won a trophy plus a check of P60, 000. Other schools who participated in this year's cheering event include the University of the East Pep Squad, the Ateneo Blue Eagles Blue Babble Battalion, the National University Pep Squad, and the Adamson Falcon Pep Squad. In last year's competitions, the UP Pep Squad came close to winning first place, but the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe managed to snag the championship with a lead of leading only 0.22 percent. UST got 90.98 percent while UP had 90.76. Far Eastern University (FEU) was third with 88.72. - GMANews.TV
