Asafa Powell not keen on US-Jamaica sprint match
KINGSTON, Jamaica â Former 100-meter world record-holder Asafa Powell isn't terribly interested in a sprint meet between the United States and Jamaica. Powell told Radio Jamaica on Wednesday that the meet would be meaningless. Last week, USA Track and Field and the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association announced plans to stage meets in each country, starting next year in May or June. The meets would include the 100, 200 and 400 meters, two hurdles events, three relays and the long jump. Powell, of Jamaica, says he doesn't see the relevance of the meets because "we compete in so many meets on the circuit every year, so to have a one-on-one doesn't make any sense." Jamaica swept the individual sprints at the Beijing Olympics. Powell won a gold in the 400 relay. â AP
