Foundation grabs semis berth in Nestea beach volley’s Visayas leg

MANILA, Philippines – Defending titlist Foundation University earned a semifinals berth on Friday after a 21-12, 21-14 demolition of University of San Carlos in the Visayas leg of the 13th Nestea Fit Beach Volley National Circuit at the Parkmall's Piazza Area in Mandaue City, Cebu. Focus and determination proved to be Arnel Amadeo and Buensuceso Sayson’s key in thwarting USC’s Roderick Arenasa and Bon Vincent Estrera’s upset bid. “We doubled our efforts," said the 23-year-old Amadeo, who like his 18-year-old partner, focused on their coach’s strategy of using the jump serves which connected and produced the pivotal scores for the pair. Amadeo and Sayson are now close to their mission of making it to the Boracay National Finals on May 7 to 9. Likewise taking a semis berth is University of Visayas which defeated Iloilo Doctors College, 21-18, 22-20, for its third triumph. Staying in contention for a Final Four spot are University of Southern Philippines Foundation which won over University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, 24-22, 18-21, 18-16, and University of San Jose-Recoletos which defeated University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, 21-16, 21-14. In women's action, defending champion Southwestern University came back from its opening day setback with a come-from-behind 18-21, 21-17, 15-12 triumph against USLS while UV downed Foundation, 21-19, 21-15 and University of San Agustin defeated Central Philippine University, 19-21, 21-18, 15-11. The top three finishers in the Visayas leg will join early qualifiers from Luzon and Mindanao in Boracay. – GMANews.TV
