Ginebra courting former slam dunk king Noel as reinforcement

MANILA, Philippines – NBA veteran David Noel, who played for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Clippers, will most likely suit up as import of the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings. A team insider said that the Gin Kings management and coaching staff are now talking to Noel’s agent to get the former the slam dunk champion’s services in time for Ginebra’s next game against the Burger King Whoppers on Monday. Noel, a member of North Carolina’s 2005 NCAA title-winning team, was a key reserved player but had his shining moment as a Tar Heel in his senior season where he averaged 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds. In the NBA, Noel had a modest season as a member of the Bucks posting averages of 2.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and one assist. Ginebra coach Jong Uichico neither confirmed nor denied that the team is pursuing Noel. His only answer is that he will get the best available talent in time for their next game. The Gin Kings played All-Filipino Friday night against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. U.S. scouts described the 6-foot-6 forward as a terrific athlete and an ideal role player. He has great strength, excellent leaping ability and outstanding hands. He is also very coachable, executes well, plays hard and shows a high basketball IQ. Playing power forward for most of his career, Noel has improved his shooting touch. In the PBA, the local boy from North Carolina is expected to play the No.4 spot and provide the inside presence Uichico and his team needs. Noel, however, is reportedly not a good ball handler and has problems with his dribbling skills. – GMANews.TV
