Pacquiao's six-minute fight vs Hatton fit for 'YouTube'

CHICAGO, Illinois – It appears that Manny Pacquiao no longer wants to raise more money on the side. After all, he will be taking home a minimum guarantee of $12-M while Ricky Hatton, $8-M. The whole episode, all under six minutes, is a shoo-in for a “YouTube" highlight that can easily fit in the popular video sharing website for free, which users can upload, view and share video clips for everybody to view and appreciate. This means that the Filipino boxing icon and British champion will find it very awkward to peddle the junior welterweight division “Battle of the East and West" championship Saturday (May 2) at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada on a CD or DVD for its brevity. Unless, they pack it up with long background footages. Of course, even Manny, himself, was surprised in joining boxing immortality, tying the legendary Oscar De La Hoya as a six-division world champion. Pacquiao cemented his claim of being the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer with a sensational second-round knockout of Hatton Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden. Hatton lost his IBO and Ring Magazine junior lightweight belts. Pacquiao previously won titles in the WBC flyweight, IBF super bantamweight, WBC super featherweight, and WBC lightweight divisions. Pacquiao unveiled for the first time his new secret weapon – a right hook – that dropped the British boxer in the first round. The Filipino southpaw is known for his devastating left cross or straight that landed on Hatton’s chin in the second round and finally sent the British champion to dreamland. Pacquiao told boxing analyst Larry Merchant after the fight that Hatton did not see his right hook coming. "I'm surprised the fight was so easy," Pacquiao said. "He was wide open for the right hook. I knew he would be looking for my left." Pacquiao was favored to win. But many were surprised that Hatton came down as quick. Hatton’s only loss was a 10th round TKO from Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in 2007. He was no match with Pacquiao, who rained blows in his body. Pacquiao landed 73 of his 127 power punches while Hatton could only deliver 18 of 78 blows. Referee Kenny Bayless took one look at Hatton and declared the fight over at 2:59 of the second round. Hatton’s trainer Floyd Mayweather, Sr. did not make any comment after the fight. But Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, said, “This is no shock at all. Hatton pumps his hands before he throws a punch, and it makes him a sucker for the right hook. Manny is a monster. He is the best fighter ever. There is no surprise here." “I knew it was over," said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer. “Ricky fights the same way over and over. He doesn’t have the ability to adjust." Hatton’s uninspired performance disappointed his noisy fans among the 16,262, who have not even warmed up to their seats. Because British subjects do not need visas to enter the United States, Hatton’s fans easily outnumbered Filipinos traveling from the Philippines, who would need to obtain visitors’ visa to watch the fight. – GMANews.TV
