Women players to challenge men in Philippine 10-Ball Open

MANILA, Philippines – Jasmin Ouschan, Kelly Fisher and Karen Corr three big names in the women’s professional billiard circuit, will challenge the best in the men’s field in the inaugural Philippine Ten Ball Open Championship which opens on May 27 at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall 2 in Mandaluyong City. Ouschan, the top ranked female player by the World Pool-Billiard Association, became the darling of the crowd in last year’s inaugural staging of the World Ten Ball Championship in Manila. Now stronger, better and more dangerous, Ouschan will use both his charm and skill against his more illustrious male counterparts. The pretty Austrian lass will be joined by Fisher and Corr along with three other lady bets in this first WPA ranking tour. Corr is a veteran in the women’s professional pool circuit. She is probably the winningest lady competitor in the 64-player field of the event – three-time World Snooker champion, three-time World English Billiard champion, European snooker champion, WPBA 9-Ball champion, WPBA US Open champion and two-time WPBA BCA champion. “To me, success is picking up the trophy," said Corr in one of her interviews. Fisher, a former No.1 player in the WPBA, won last year’s US Open Championship. She has also collected titles in Europe as a three-time ladies champion. The other three lady players are Julie Kelly of Ireland and Melissa Little and Sarah Rousey of the United States. Corr’s compatriot, Kelly, won the 2000 World 9-Ball Women’s Championship. Little was a former two-time amateur national champion in America while Rousey is currently ranked sixth in the WPBA. These deadly female cue artists will mix it up against some of the world’s best players including reigning World Ten Ball champion Darren Appleton (Great Britain), world No.1 player Ralf Souquet (Germany), two-time World Junior champion Ko Pin Yi (Chinese-Taipei), former world champion Mika Immonen (Finland), former US Open champion Shane Van Boening and Filipino bets Jericho Bañares, Jeff De Luna and teenage sensation Jonas Magpantay. – GMANews.TV
