UK’s Fisher is last female bet in RP Ten Ball Open

MANILA, Philippines – Kelly Fisher is the last woman standing while Indonesia’s Ricky Yang of Indonesia and Chang Pei Wei of Chinese Taipei remained perfect in the Philippine Open Pool Championship. The foreign bets continued their remarkable showing here Friday night as they coasted to their third straight triumphs in the year’s first World Pool-Billiard Association ranking event at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall 2 in Mandaluyong City. Fisher, a former World 9-Ball women’s champion, made short work of American Gabe Owen, 9-3, to enter the fourth round of the winner’s bracket in this event. Fisher jumped the gun early on Owen, racing to an 8-1 lead and never looked back. The British lady sensation is joining Chang Pei Wei of Chinese Taipei and Ricky Yang of Indonesia as the only unbeaten players so far. “I had almost a full day of rest and to me it was a privilege," said Fisher. “I came out fully recharged and that helped my game a bit." Fisher is the only lady player left from the original six entered in the 64-player field. The latest casualty among women players was Karen Corr, a multi-titled lady player from Ireland. Corr was booted out by the world’s No.1 player, Ralf Souquet, 9-2. Chang tripped power breaking Jeffrey de Luna, 9-2, and advanced to the next level of the winner’s bracket. It was the third win in as many matches for the Taiwanese sensation. Yang trounced Satoshi Kawabata of Japan, 9-6, to also move into the fourth round of the winner’s side. For De Luna, it was his first setback in three matches. He was relegated to the loser’s bracket where he joined fellow Filipinos Marlon Manalo and Oliver Villafuerte, OFW Allan Cuartero, American Corey Deuel, Austrian Martin Kempter and Russian Ruslan Chinahov. Relegated to the loser’s bracket following a stunning loss at the hands of Indonesia’s Rudi Susanto, 9-7, Thursday, Manalo struck back with a vengeance and upstaged Leong Young Hwa of Korea, 9-7, to stay in the hunt for the $20,000 top prize. Villafuerte outplayed Chan Keng Kwang of Singapore, 9-4; Cuartero booted out Fabio Petroni of Italy, 9-5; Deuel picked up his second straight win after bashing Kuo Po Cheng of Chinese Taipei, 9-2; Kempter edged Japanese bet Hayato Hijikata, 9-7 and Chinahov defeated wildcard entry James Al Ortega, 9-7. – GMANews.TV
