Korean bet boots out Tabuena in RP amateur golf
MANILA, Philippines â Korean Jeung Hun-wang stomped the opposition with a pair of wins on a rainy Saturday to setup a final match play duel with Mark Fernando in the Philippine Amateur Golf Championships at the Eastridge Golf and Country Club in Binangonan, Rizal. Wang booted out Miguel Tabuena, 3 and 1, defeated low medalist Jhonel Ababa, 4 and 3, in the quarters, and sideswiped King Stehmeier, 5 and 4, in the semis to move a win shy of becoming the first Korean ever to win the RP amateur national title. Fernando disposed off Dino Villanueva, 5 and 4, and beat returning ICTSI member Miko Alejandro, 4 and 3. Earlier, he outlasted former Hong Kong Amateur Open champ Dante Beciera, also of ICTSI, 2 and 1. Ardina, meanwhile, outclassed ICTSI teammate Chihiro Ikeda, 3 and 2, in their semis encounter to arrange a showdown with Princess Superal, who repulsed low medalist and Orchard teammate Andrea Unson, 2 and 1, for the ladies crown. The 15-year-old Ardina, making the most of her vacation from an ICTSI golf scholarship, earlier trounced reigning RP Ladies Open champion Louise Manalo, 5 and 4, and kept that momentum to outplay the 17-year-old Ikeda, who edged Sabah amateur champion Ainil Johani of Malaysia, 1-up, in the quarters. Superal nipped Beverly Mendoza then posted a 2-up lead over Unson after 12 holes in the semis before hanging tough to nip the top seeded bet and set up a duel with perhaps the most fancied player in the fold. In seniors play, Cangolfâs Rolly Viray upset top seed OV Espiritu of Manila Golf, 3 and 1, to arrange a title playoff with Manila Golfâs Richie Garcia, who beat Teodoro Runes, 5 and 4. â GMANews.TV
