Power-breaker de Luna wins first match in China Open
MANILA, Philippines â Failing in his bid of winning on Philippine soil, power-breaking Jeff de Luna has brought his game in the China Open where he hopes to end up as the champion. De Luna, who lost to Ricky Yang of Indonesia in the Philippine Open Pool Championship last month, opened his title bid with an 11-7 win over Mateusz Sniegocki of the Czech Republic. The Philippine Open Pool Championship was the World Pool-Billiard Associationâs first-ever ranking tour event. De Lunaâs win serve notice of his title aspirations in WPAâs second ranking tour event of the year. De Luna, whose only major title was the Manny Pacquiao International Pool tournament held in the Philippines, took advantage of his breaking power to pull away and never look back. Other big names, who won on opening day, were world no.1 player Ralf Souquet of Germany, Charlie Williams of the United States, former world champion Mika Immonen of Finland and Marcus Chamat of Sweden. Souquet ripped Aka Kariyama of Japan, 11-3; Williams trounced Jeong Young Hwa of Korea, 11-4; Immonen demolished Oscar Dominguez, 11-3; and Chamat blanked Abdulatef Fawal, 11-0. â GMANews.TV
