Burger King coach fined for Game 3 outburst

MANILA, Philippines - Burger King coach Yeng Guiao bore the brunt of the total P99,600 fine slapped by PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios on key personalities involved in the ongoing Motolite-PBA Fiesta Cup semifinals. Guiao was slapped P73,600 for the technical foul he drew following his outburst in Game 3 Sunday, while an additional P10,000 fine was charged on him for attempting to confront the referees in the hallway leading to their dugout after the game which the Whoppers lost, 88-100. In all, Guiao received a total fine of P83,600 and got a warning from Barrios that he will be suspended the next time he loses his temper again. Sunday’s “T" was Guiao’s ninth this conference. PBA rules provide that fines stemming from technical fouls will be doubled when a player or team official has committed his sixth “T". The commissioner also issued the same warning to San Miguel Beer’s Wesley Gonzales and Burger King’s Beau Belga. Gonzales was fined P1,000 for the technical foul he drew for pushing Burger King’s Mark Yee, who gave him a hard foul that opened a cut above his right eyebrow. Barrios said a review of the game tape showed the SMB guard attacked the Burger King rookie after a call has been made that should have merited a Flagrant Foul Penalty 1 (FFP1) so he slapped Gonzales with an additional P5,000 fine for a total of P6,000. Yee met the commissioner Tuesday but Barrios withheld his punishment pending the review of his offense. If his action warrants a suspension, Barrios said Yee will serve it on Game 4 on Friday. Belga was fined P10,000 after picking up his third FFP1 in the conference in Friday’s Game 2, following a hard foul on SMB import Gabe Freeman. - GMANews.TV
