J-Ro remains in good position to win Wegmans LPGA crown

MANILA, Philippines — Jennifer Rosales has been in this position before — but that was a long time ago. Rosales carded another three-under-par 69 to place seventh after two rounds and remain in good position to contest the title in the rain-delayed Wegmans LPGA in Pittsford, New York. It was more than a year when Rosales was at this position midway through the $2-million tournament. Back then, she and partner Dorothy Delasin were consistently in the Top 10 and eventually copped the World Cup of Golf crown in South Africa. This time, however, it was an all Rosales show. She began her day at the back nine with a single birdie. As the game progressed, she rolled three more birdies on Nos. 4, 7 and 9 in the front side to offset a solo bogey at No. 5 at the Locust Hill Country Club course. “I’m all pumped up. If I can chip away some of the lead in third round, to somewhere before two or three strokes, I have a pretty good chance at this," said Rosales, whose 138 (69-69) was five down from unofficial leader LPGA rookie Jiyai Shin. Filipino-American Delasin, whose game has gone down considerably after their World Cup triumph, tumbled to second to the last in the standings with an 82 for 158. Shin, meanwhile, fired a four-under-par in between severe weather delays, to bring her two-day score to 11-under-par 133 (65-68), a new 36-hole record in the Wegmans LPGA. She recorded five birdies on with just one bogey on the 10th and was the unofficial leader after two. The closest player to Shin was Morgan Pressel, who was eight-under-par overall when her day was cut short due to darkness. The former amateur champion Pressel will have four holes left to play Saturday morning, before her third round will start. – GMANews.TV
