The National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) is upbeat about the chances of what officials dubbed as one of the best RP contingents in the 49th Southeast Asia Amateur Golf Team Championships, more known as the Putra Cup, which starts next week in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Rufino Bayron and Antonio Asistio, who saw also action in the Putra Cup last year in Singapore, will spearhead the menâs competition where the main trophy will be at stake. Joining them are Peter Villaber and Mhark Fernando. âWe have an excellent line-up. I am pretty confident that weâll even surpass our third place finish a year ago," said NGAP director and tournament director Pablo Soon. On the distaff side, reigning RP Ladies Open champion Louise Manalo, multi-titled Dottie Ardina and Chihiro Ikeda, along with former national amateur winner Anya Tanpinco will vie for the inaugural Santi Cup crown at the Santiburi Country Club. Representing the juniors are members of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines namely, Jobim Carlos, Edward Reyes, Chepe Dulay, and Miguel Tabuena. The RP delegation is set to leave for Thailand on Saturday, August 15, and practice the next day at Santiburi.
