Terrence Romeo literally burned the hoops as he scored a record 83 points in Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Educational Foundationâs 104-55 mangling of University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) Tuesday in the UAAP juniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Romeoâs massive output eclipsed the leagueâs previous best of 60 points posted by, ironically, a former UPIS stalwart, Paolo Mendoza, who did the trick in the mid-1990s. A transferee from Letran, Romeo alone defeated the entire Junior Maroons side with 19 points in the first quarter, 11 in the second, a whopping 33 in the third (the Baby Tamsâ total output), and 20 in the fourth. He shot 29-of-42 from the two-point area, five-of-22 from three-point distance, and 10-of-12 from the free throw line in 31 minutes of play, singlehandedly beating the Junior Maroons, who remained winless in nine outings. FEU-FERN improved to a 6-3 for third place with the win. With Romeo taking the lionâs share in scoring, the Baby Tamsâ next best scorers for the game were Kelvin Paulino, Adiel Dimdam and Arwin Albano, who finished with four points apiece. Romeoâs scoring spree came a few months after another junior player, Joshua Saret of the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers, waxed hot with 89 points over in the NCAA.
