UAAP: FEU Tamaraws nail beach volleyball title


Far Eastern University (FEU) and Adamson University played their hearts out despite beach volleyball being a mere demonstration sports in Season 69 of the UAAP, becoming the first winners of the exhibition event. The FEU Tamarraws nailed the crown with a 23-21, 21-18, 15-13 win over the University of the Philippines Maroons. The pair of Joshua Alcarde and Mark Alexander Sibug, both members of the Tamaraws' indoor volleyball team, got their game going in the third set to put down UP 's Jarod Hubalde and John Mendoza. FEU reached the finals by defeating Adamson University, 16-21, 21-18, 15-13, in the semifinals. UP easily bested Ateneo in the other semifinals, 21-12, 21-14. "We're happy that we we're the first team to win kahit demo sport pa lang, " said Alcarde. Adamson was third in the men's contest, followed by Ateneo and University of the East (UE). In the women 's category, Adamson swept all its assignments including a 21-10, 21-17 victory over UE in the finals. The duo of Rizza Laguiless and Anna Suarez were just to good agaisnt UE 's Suzanne Roces and Mary Abigail Escandor to run away with the crown. Season 69 host UE introduced beach volleyball as a demonstration sports this year. University of Santo Tomas finished third, while FEU was fourth, Ateneo fifth, National U sixth, and UP seventh in the women's division. - GMANews.TV
