UST, FEU dispute early lead in V-League

Opening day winners University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University clash for the early lead Tuesday in the main game of a triple-header in the preliminary round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 second conference at the The Arena in San Juan. The Tigresses of Coach Cesael de los Santos demolished the Adamson University Lady Falcons in their first match while the Lady Tamaraws of Coach Nestor Pamilar crushed University of the Philippines in straight sets in Sunday's opener. “Hopefully, we can play consistently in our future games. At sana gumanda na rin yung teamwork kasi yun ang talagang kulang namin," said de los Santos, whose team is seeking to sweep the championship this season.

Aside from team captain Aiza Maizo and the comebacking Angeli Tabaquero, de los Santos is also expecting other veterans Rhea Dimaculangan, Maika Ortiz and Judy Ann Caballejo to step up and play solid games for UST. He hopes his promising rookies, former national girls’ team mainstays Maruja Banaticla and Dindin Santiago, together with their guest player Roxanne Pimentel, can jell with the team immediately. “Pag nakapag-adjust na sila nang husto, siguro dun lang puwedeng sabihin na malakas yung tsansa namin," de los Santos said. On the FEU side, Pamilar will again bank on guest player Rachel Ann Daquis and veterans Shaira Gonzales and Cherry Vivas to spearhead the Morayta-based team's bid. “Basta lalaban kami, maging maganda lang naman yung depensa namin, may chance kami against UST," said Pamilar who's also expecting veteran players Rose Cabanag and April Jose to play more aggressively. Meanwhile, the Adamson Lady Falcons and the UP Lady Maroons try to bounce back from their opening day setbacks as they take on separate rivals in the first two games.
