Van Boening heads starry US crew in World Ten Ball
Shane Van Boening, United Statesâ ace cuemaster and the No. 5 ranked player in the world, will lead a star-studded US contingent to Manilaâs second staging of the World Ten Ball Championship on Nov. 25-30 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. A former US 9-Ball Open champion, Van Boening will be joined in by fellow seeded American players Corey Deuel and Charlie Williams in the $262,000 tournament. Van Boening is also a former ruler of the Predator 10-Ball meet and a frequent Manila visitor. Like Van Boening, Deuel, ranked No.12 in the world, is also an ex-US Open titlist. Known as the Korean Dragon, Williams is a perennial contender in major international pool tournaments. Also vying for the coveted title from the Americas is Canadian Tyler Edey, Canadaâs best top pool player and ranked 29th in the world. In addition to the four bets, 13 other players from North and South America will be coming over, earning their spots from the Billiards Congress of America and the Confederation Panamerica of Billiards. The 10 BCA players are former world champion and veteran campaigner Johnny Archer, Oscar Dominguez, Shawn Putnam, Stevie Moore, Charlie Bryant and Shaun Wilkie of the US, and Alain Martel, Raymond Cruz, Erik Hjorleifson and Adam Smith of Canada. Frailin Guanica and Jalal Youse of Venezuela and Ignacio Chavez of Mexico are the three players representing the CPB in the biggest world pool championship for men this year. - GMANews.TV
