V-League: Ateneo seeks 3rd straight win vs Benilde

Riding high on its back-to-back victories dating back to its last game in the eliminations, Ateneo de Manila seeks to sustain its run versus College of St. Benilde in the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 second conference at the San Juan Arena Tuesday. After finally scoring their first win over Adamson after eight straight losses, the Lady Eagles dealt the FEU Lady Tamaraws their second setback in the quarterfinals, 25-16, 26-24, 24-26, 25-14 and jumped into a tie for third place with NCAA champion San Sebastian College.

“I just hope na magtuluy-tuloy ang ganitong intensity ng laro namin. Malaking bagay talaga yung naging panalo namin against (long-time tormentor) Adamson dahil tumaas yung morale nila," said Lady Eagles mentor Clint Malazo. The Lady Eagles meet the slumping Lady Blazers, who are presently at the tailend of the standings with only two wins against five losses, at 4 p.m. Adamson and FEU, meanwhile, lock horns in the 2 p.m. first game. Fille Cainglet who scored 15 hits, three blocks and a service ace against the Lady Tams, is expected to spearhead the Lady Eagles once more together with Angeline Gervacio, who posted 16 points the last time. Lady Falcons coach Dulce Pante, meanwhile, hopes her wards will play more consistently to boost their bid to advance into the next round. “Dapat ganyan ang lalaruin nila," Pante said, referring to the Lady Falcons’ fired-up performance in their win over the Lady Stags. “Hindi yung pag nakakalamang na, bigla-biglang nagri-relax at nagiging complacent kung hindi mahihirapan kaming pumasok ng semis."
