Jungolf star Tabuena wins 'Maling' Montecillo memorial tourney

Miguel Tabuena showed the way, as usual, in a clash of present and past junior golf stars by taking home the title in the inaugural Amalia Montecillo Memorial Tournament at the cool Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay City. Tabuena, 15, toured the par-72 course with a three-under-par 69 — the only subpar round submitted among the 80 participants who played — to beat Andres Saldaña by eight strokes in the centerpiece Class A division. The Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines, headed by chairman Gerry Handog and new president Luigi Tabuena, organized the one-day affair to commemorate the first death anniversary of founder, Mommy Amalia "Maling" Montecillo. Keanu Jahns, Rupert Zaragosa, Kristoffer Arevalo, Vince Ngo, Angela de Villa, Jonah Ilagan, Lois Kaye Go, Bernice Ilas and Jed Dy posted impressive wins in the other divisions. In the boys division, Jahns claimed the Class B title with a 77, Zaragosa’s 80 gave him the Class C plum, Arevalo won the Class D crown with an 80, Ngo took Class E with a 75 and Dy won Class F with an 80. De Villa led the girls’ winners, bagging Class A with a 79. Ilagan was Class B champion with an 87. Go topped Class D with a 91 and Ilas captured Class E after an 82. Princess Superal nipped Daniela Uy for the Class C title. – Adrian Flores, GMANews.TV
