Southwoods completes title romp in Baguio golf invitational


Manila Southwoods scored 141 points in the finale to claim its eighth title in the centerpiece Fil-Championship Flight of the 60th Fil-Am Men’s Golf Invitational in Baguio City. Although the game was over after the third round, Southwoods treated the final 18 seriously as it padded its advantage to a huge 58 points over a hapless Mizuno squad. Vince Lauron, the former pro who reverted back to amateur status, and Chepe Dulay carded 36 points apiece for Southwoods. Miggy Yee made 35 and Jun Jun Plana added 34. “We waited for so long. We want to cherish this first," said Plana, who has been the pillar of the Carmona-based team in the last six years. Mizuno assembled 117 points on the 34 of Justin Limjap, a pair of 28 from John baron Garcia and Rodel Mangulabnan and 27 of King Stehmeier. The team had a four-day total of 455. Camp Aguinaldo settled for third place after making 123 and a 448 total. At the Baguio Country Club, Team JF scored a final 84 to win the Am Championship by nine points over Philippine Navy GC. Richard Joson scored 26 to lead Team JF, which also collected 20 from Christian Delos Santos and a pair of 19s from Belem Arancon and Masakazu Saso for the team’s 84 and 430 aggregate. Philippine Navy GC submitted a fourth round of 89 for 421 points on the pair of 24 of Jaime Beech and Brixton Aw and the 22 and 19 of Mardelino Miralles and Pedro Bandola, Jr. Matikas closed with a 94 for 399 points to settle for third place. – Adrian Flores, GMANews.TV
