PhilSports facilities get a facelift
Facilities inside the PhilSports Complex (formerly Ultra) in Pasig City are being spruced up to better serve the national athletes. Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Harry Angping said the complex's diving pool, which has been unusable and sadly became a fish pond for years, is undergoing reconstruction for the use of the national team in the future. Upon completion, the diving pool will be in a standard 16-feet depth with 10-m, 7.5m, 5m and 3m takeoff points. âOnce the diving pool is finished, our divers will have another training facility aside from the Trace Aquatics Center in Los Baños, Laguna," Angping said. Additionally, the PSC chief said the nearby Olympic-size swimming pool is also being repaired and is scheduled to be completed by April. Other sites inside the PhilSports Complex that have been renovated are the dormitories, fencing hall and the multi-purpose arena. The dormitories for the athletes have been spruced up as it hopes to house 150 athletes. New airconditioning units have been installed at the multi-purpose arena as the PSC tries to lure the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to play their games in the venue. The PSC had also made renovations inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) in Manila with the boxing gym, taekwondo gym, gymnastics hall and the Ninoy Aquino Stadium getting needed improvements. - GMANews.TV
