Black makes PBA return as Texters consultant

Norman Black is making a comeback in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) but not as a coach but as team consultant for the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters.

Norman Black
The multi-titled mentor, who won 10 PBA championships and left the league more than five years ago, will help the Tropang Texters’ cause in the ongoing Fiesta Cup. This means that the Texters, currently in the middle of the pack with a 1-1 card, will have two multi-titled mentors since coach Chot Reyes has also won championships while wtill with Purefoods (Derby Ace). Black, who won nine titles with the San Miguel franchise and one with Sta. Lucia in 2001, is tasked to train the Tropang Texters’ big men. “He’s been helping us as early as last conference," said Talk N Text team manager Virgil Villavicencio. “But he will be a consultant for us. Chot still runs the team." Black is the second winningest coach among active mentors with Alaska’s Tim Cone emerging on top with 12 championships. Of course, no coach – active or retired – has won more championships than the legendary Baby Dlupan, known as “The Maestro" in the local basketball scene. – GMANews.TV
