Runners group commemorate Bataan Death March

Various running clubs in Luzon will kick off the country’s celebration of National Heroes Day on Thursday by staging the non-competitive 25th Araw ng Kagitingan Ultra-Marathon (A Tribute to World War II Veterans). The Araw ng Kagitingan Ultra Marathon, which will follow the route of the infamous 1942 Bataan Death March, is a two-day event that pays tribute to World War II Bataan patriots. The 114-kilomete run ends on Friday, April 9. The event begins at the kilometer zero marker in Mariveles, Bataan where Post Commander Abe Regala will lead the symbolic transfer of the torch to event founder Ed Paez of the San Fernando Runners Unlimited, Inc. (SAFER RUN). Aside from SAFER RUN members, the Philippine Army Special Services Unit, TRADOC & Light Armor Division, Caloocan North Runners Club, Runners Plus and Tarlac City Running Club will also join the running event. The group is expected to pass through eight towns in Bataan before spending the night at the Lubao, Pampanga Gym. The Bataan-Pampanga phase will end at the kilometer post 102 marker Death March Shrine in Brgy. Sto. Niño in Lubao town. Participants will then head to Sto. Domingo, Capas, Tarlac where they will make their final 12-kilometer run to Camp O’Donnell. – GMANews.TV
