Cuban hurdler Robles fine after dangerous fall
HAVANA â Olympic champion Dayron Robles said Wednesday he got away unscathed after a dangerous fall in the 110 meter hurdles at the FBK Games in the Netherlands at the weekend. Robles hit the last hurdle in Sunday's race and tumbled onto a wet track, causing brief panic among the Cuban delegation. But Robles told The Associated Press he was fine and would run in Rome on June 10. "Everything is OK," Robles said in a telephone interview from his training base in Guadalajara, Spain. "The track was too wet, I slipped â probably because I wanted to go much faster." Robles' season has got off to a slow start, the world record-holder having won only one of three races, but his coach Santiago Antunez was sure there would soon be an improvement. "Everything is in order. Dayron is training well to have a strong race in Rome," Antunez said. Robles' lone victory this season came in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, where he clocked 13.12 seconds, far off his world record of 12.87. Antunez said Robles would return to Cuba after a June 12 meet in Turin, Italy. â AP
