De Asis tops Hip 2B Fit Fun Run

Jujet de Asis upstaged fellow veteran runner Rafael Poliquit Jr. to crown himself the first ruler of the Growers NutriBar Hip 2B Fit Fun Run held recently at the University of the Philippines’ Diliman campus. De Asis crossed the 10K finish line in 31 minutes and 22 seconds while Poliquit checked in 18 seconds behind. Poliquit edged by one second another elite runner, Bernardo Desamito Jr., who timed 31:41. The female top finishers were Luisa Raterta (37:38), Dalyn Carmen (39:31) and Mirasol Abad (40:06). Aside from medals, the winners pocketed P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000, respectively. The Growers run, in cooperation with the UP Mountaineers, gathered professional and amateur runners alike for the race that aims to promote biking within the UP Diliman campus. Students, teachers, athletes, young professionals, health buffs, and families also participated in the 3K and 5K events and a 3K parent-child contest. Growers NutriBar donated bike racks to be installed around the campus. Each rack can accommodate cable-locked bikes. “The bike racks will supplement the campus’ need for parking facilities and encourage more students and faculty members to use bikes to be fit and to promote cleaner environment," said Mike Rotea, marketing manager of Marketreach Distributors Inc., distributors of Growers NutriBar.
