Lady Tams, Lady Eagles strike in UAAP caging

Far Eastern University escaped past La Salle, 51-44, and gained a share of the lead with defending champion Adamson in the 73rd UAAP women's basketball tournament at the Philsports Arena. The Lady Tamaraws went to Karen Columna and Raiza Palmera, who scored 18 and 10 points, respectively. The Morayta-based cagebelles scored a win despite being held down to only eight points in the final 10 minutes of play. Also providing valuable contributions is center Allana Lim, who finished with a double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds. Kady Wilson led the Lady Archers with 19 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Meanwhile, Ateneo escaped with a 61-58 win over National University in a game that saw a near free-for-all rarely seen in a female basketball game. The Lady Bulldogs' Meliza Mandap was tossed out during the dying minutes for kicking the Lady Eagles' Sarah Mercado. She is expected to be slapped a one-game ban for the incident. Jennifer Dimaano tallied 13 points to lead Ateneo to a 2-1 record. NU fell to 1-2. - RCJ, GMANews.TV
