San Beda coach Frankie Lim wants his Red Lions to come out strong and remain aggressive even against a winless team like Perpetual Help.

"We hope to sustain the momentum and aggressiveness without underestimating Perpetual Help," said Lim, who's hoping to steer the Mendiola-based dribblers to their fifth straight triumph when they face winless Perpetual Help (0-5) in the 4 p.m. contest. San Beda shares the top spot with defending champion San Sebastian, both teams holding identical 4-0 records. "We have to keep the same level of play if we want to remain competitive come the end of the first round," added Lim, who aims to break the Lions' tie with the Stags in the standings and regain the crown they lost last year. "We're deeper now, I guess that was the key to our earlier run," said Lim, who is also Smart Gilas Pilipinas' team manager. San Beda registered its fourth straight win via a 77-60 rout of Letran last week behind the hot-shooting of Garvo Lanete, who was named the NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week. Lanete's long-range bombs helped the Red Lions break the game wide open in the second quarter. He finished with 22 points draining three three-pointers. After their game against the Altas, the Lions clash with the Arellano Chiefs on August 4 and the College of St. Benilde Blazers on August 11. They will face the defending champions, a rematch of the 2009 title series, in their final assignment in the first round on August 18. Supporting Lanete are American Sudan Daniel, brothers David and Anthony Semerad, veteran point guard Borgie Hermida and Rome Dela Rosa. St. Benilde tries to bounce back from a 74-65 setback to Jose Rizal University last week when they face the also winless Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals in the 2 p.m. opening match. EAC has yet to post a win after three matches, losing an average of 41 points in its last two games. The Generals suffered back-to-back 40-point losses against the Lions (97-55) and the Stags (106-66).
