Cabahug on target as Cultivators barge way to TOP semis

Patrick Cabahug came up with his best offensive game to star in Misamis Oriental’s 85-82 decision over ANI-FCA in the Tournament of the Philippines (TOP) quarterfinals at the Xavier Gym University in Cagayan de Oro City. The ace gunner came off the bench and fired his tournament high 30 points, including 17 when the Meteors slowly pulled away from the Cultivators. The Cultivators joined Treston Laguna and Ascof Lagundi in the next round. ML Kwarta Padala Cebu, who emerged the number one team in the nine-leg elimination of this tournament jointly organized by Philippine Basketball League and Liga Pilipinas, seeks to complete the Final Four cast as it plays eighth-ranked MP Gensan Warriors on August 25 at the New Cebu City Coliseum. Cabahug was on and off in the elimination rounds, averaging just 12.1 points, including a previous high of 25, which he scored in the team’s 75-69 victory over Taguig. But the veteran player was on target, this time, making 13-of- 20 field goals, including four triples. Three of those rainbow connections came in the third period as he outscored the entire Cultivators to turn a 38-39 halftime deficit into a 64-55 advantage. He failed to score in the final 10 minutes, but his teammates stepped up. Back-to-back triples from Dennis Daa and Khiel Misa established the game’s biggest lead at 15 points, 72-57. - RCJ, GMANews.TV
