Sean Anthony, one of the most promising newcomers in the Philippine Basketball Association, will miss Poweradeâs games for the next five weeks. An operation to repair a shattered nose bridge was performed on the 6-foot-3, Fil-foreign player, which forced the hardworking rookie to sit out the Tigersâ 87-77 triumph over the Barako Bull Energy Boosters Sunday.

This was confirmed by Powerade coach Bo Perasol during a post-game interview. âSean had no idea that an operation was needed, so when he woke up, he was mad and frustrated when he learned he wonât be playing for the next five weeks," Perasol said. Charlie Dy, Anthonyâs manager, told GMANews.TV in an online interview that his ward went for a check-up to have his nose treated. âThe initial discussion was to uplift a portion of his sunken nose," said Dy, one of the most notable basketball agents in the country today. âBut when the doctor saw that his nose bridge wasnât just broken, but shattered, then the operation was done." âI believe the doctor will not let it pass if an operation is needed to be done." Powerade board governor JB Baylon understands why his prized rookie was frustrated. âSean's itching to play and I believe the five weeks' rest ordered by his doctor is what frustrates him," added Baylon, currently the treasurer of the leagueâs board of governors. In his first two games in the PBA, Anthony averaged 10 rebounds per game and proved to be among the Tigers' promising frontliners. âWe took him in not because of his scoring, but his rebounding. He is one of our more energetic players and thatâs how important he is to us. But this is also a good opportunity for others to step up. In the end, this will also be good for Sean because we will be needing him more in the long stretch," added Perasol. -
