For the latest Philippine news stories and videos, visit GMANews.TV De La Salle University (DLSU) is mourning the loss of one of its athletes â women's swimming team captain Janina Sedilla. Sedilla tragically died together with her family inside their house which was gutted down in a
predawn fire on Monday, March 14, in Quezon City. She was only 21. She was also the team captain of the La Salle team which finished third in the UAAP women's swimming competitions at the Trace Aquatic Center in Los Banos, Laguna. La Salle has extended its support to the Sedilla family. "The La Sallian community is saddened by the tragic news. We will sponsor a Mass in honor of the family," said La Salle UAAP board representative Bro. Bernie Oca, FSC. La Salle's swimming coach Guy Concepion said that the team is grieving the loss of their leader. He refused to make any further comment but described Sedilla as a "great person." The La Salle swimming team was actually coming off a swim meet with other collegiate teams the day before the tragedy occurred, so the news came as a shock not only to La Salle's but to other school teams as well. "Other swimmers from other schools were also in shock because some of them were either her teammates or competitors in age group tournaments," said a La Salle supporter of the swimming team who refused to be named. The remains of the Sedilla family lie at the Asension Chapel of Arlington in Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.
