Junior World-bound Ardina wins girls' Class A title at Southwoods
Dottie Ardina is already assured of a slot in the Junior World Championship but that did not prevent her from winning the girls' Class A division title in the qualifying tournament held at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club's Legends course in Carmona, Cavite. Ardina, who was the only player to shoot an under par card 70 in the third round at the tough Legends layout, finished off with an even 72 for a 10-stroke win over first round leader Andrea Unson. Ardina overcame the scorching summer heat in pooling a three-day total of 293 and beat Unson's 303 aggregate. Unson tried to catch up with Ardina but her four-bogey, three-birdie stint in the final nine was only good for 73. Angela de Villa placed third with an 81 (312). In the boys' Class A, former national amateur champion Clyde Mondilla is heading to San Diego for the Junior World after he came through with a sizzling five-under 67 for a 291 total. Andres Saldana was a far second with 75-303 followed by Agustin Mata's 76-306. Miggy Yee turned in the best score of six-under 66 for 275 to clinch the boys' Class B crown. Rupert Zaragoza, only three behind before the finale, shot a 72 for 284. AJ Ramos was next with 73-295. Princess Superal (73-292) defeated Daniella Uy (72-293) by one stroke in the girls' Class B. Other division winners were Kristoffer Arevalo (76-302) and Mia Legaspi (75-292) in Class C and Ira Alido (69-267) and Harmie Constantino (69-283) in Class D. - Adrian Flores, JVP, GMA News
