With the win, the Chiefs moved ahead of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Maroons for tournament leadership. The Maroons suffered a 68-60 defeat from the hands of PATTS College of Aeronautics that kept them from joining the Chiefs in the lead as they fell behind at 2-1. Gio Ciriacruz tallied 21 points, Alfie Martinez contributed 14 and Rafael Marquez had 12 for the Chiefs. Sammy Isidro eked out 26 points, including a driving attempt in the last 19 seconds as the Sea Lions (0-2) forced the extension at 82-all. The Leo Isaac-coached Chiefs could have settled the issue in their favor in regulation, but Martinez bungled an attempt, allowing the Sea Lions to keep possession as time expired. The Chiefs dictated the pace in the extra five minutes, with Daroya's drive and three-point play with 2:48 remaining allowing Arellano to move ahead, 89-83. "The opponent gave us a good fight. The teamâs discipline made the difference," said Isaac. Meanwhile, Vic Manuel unloaded 23 points while Timothy Zayas chipped in 20 for the Philippine School of Business Administration Jaguars, who walloped Unibersidad de Manila, 89-76, for their first win in three games. After UDM (0-3) threatened to within six points, the Jaguars managed to keep out of trouble via the charity shots and penetrations of Lester Mendoza, whose efforts handed PSBA an 82-73 cushion. "At least weâre no longer at the bottom of the standings. The boys have been learning a lot from me. It's time for them to show some maturity," said Jaguars coach Philip Cezar. GMANews.TV
