Guioguio loses title bid at PNGA women's amateur
Lovelyn Guioguio of the Philippines lost to American Aaren Ziegler, 5 and 4, in the match play finals of the PNGA Women's Amateur Championship at the Port Ludlow Golf Club in Port Ludlow, Washington. Ziegler simply outclassed and outplayed Guioguio in the final showdown. The Canby, Oregon native already had a superb 18 holes in the morning by going 5-up against the ICTSI-Philippine Team campaigner. The trend continued until the 32nd hole where the duel ended after both made closing pars. "I lost to a better player but it is alright. I'm very happy I've reached this far which I didn't expect at all," said Guioguio, winner of the Sarawak Amateur Open months back. Guioguio zoomed to a 1-up in two holes but Ziegler netted three of the next six holes to lead by 3. Although Guioguio got the ninth, Ziegler won Nos. 11, 12, 13 and 16 to shoot to 5-up after the first 18 holes. From thereon, it was smooth sailing for Ziegler, a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as she just went toe-to-toe with Guioguio. - Adrian Flores/JVP, GMA News
