Australia's Nathan Green wins N.Z. Open
AUCKLAND, New Zealand - Australia's Nathan Green won the New Zealand Open on Sunday, closing with a 6-under 66 in windy conditions for a two-stroke victory over New Zealand star Michael Campbell and five other players. Green had a 5-under 279 total on the Gulf Harbour Country Club course. Six shots back after a third-round 76, he finished well before the other leaders. "It was tough to sit there watching the guys come in. Your heart is in your mouth over every putt," said Green, a two-time winner on the Nationwide Tour who earned $1,700,803 on the PGA Tour this year. "That was the hardest day of my life." Campbell, playing his first tour event in New Zealand since winning the 2005 U.S. Open, finished with a 72 to match England's Nick Dougherty (67) and Australians Wade Ormsby (70), Jarrod Moseley (70), Brett Rumford (71) and Marcus Fraser (73) at 3 under. "It wasn't meant to be," Campbell said. "All credit to Nathan Green for playing so well in these conditions." The tournament was con-sanctioned by the Australasian and European tours.-AP
