CSB squads aim to defend NCAA chess crowns
The senior and junior team of College of Saint Benilde open their respective title retention bids at the start of the 87th NCAA chess tournament on Sunday at SM Sta. Mesa. Competition starts at 1 p.m. after the opening rites to be led by tournament chairman Frank Gusi of event host San Sebastian. The International Master Fernie Donguines-mentored Blazers are targeting to win their sixth straight seniors crown. Out to challenge Donguines' CSB crew are 2009 champion Letran and perennial title contender San Sebastian. The Junior Blazers are hoping to clinch their second straight crown against a tough field composed of many-time titlist San Sebastian Staglets and the Letran Squires. - JVP, GMA News
