Efren 'Bata' Reyes booted out of World Pool Masters
Efren âBata" Reyes got an early boot in the 2011 World Pool Masters as he bowed to Darren Appleton of England, 8-5. Behind a packed crowd to cheer on Reyes, Appleton got off to a 4-1 start and never looked back as the Englishman also took advantage of Reyesâ errors to advance to the quarterfinal round of the knockout tournament Sunday at The Block at SM City North EDSA in Quezon City. âThat's the most nervous I've ever been in my life and at the start of the game I didn't feel comfortable. But I managed to put a couple of good balls and luckily for me I could see Efren was struggling with the pressure as well," Appleton said in an interview posted at the Matchroom Sport website. Appleton took a 4-1 lead despite missing a 2-9 combination as he cleaned the rack after Reyes missed the four-ball. Reyes trailed by only one rack, 5-4, but failed to tie the match when he committed an illegal break. Appleton scratched on the 12th game that left Reyes with a 2-9 combination but Reyes committed another illegal break and left a 1-9 combination for Appleton to seal the win. Meanwhile, Dennis Orcullo advanced to the semifinals after beating Chang Jung Lin of Chinese Taipei, 8-1. Orcullo didnât let up racking up after Chang took the opener as the Filipino racked up the next eight games to make it to the semifinals where he will face Fu Jian Bo of China. Fu defeated Jason Klatt of Canada, 8-5, to set up the semifinal date with Orcullo. -- OMG, GMA News
