San Sebastian's Calvin Abueva bags NCAA MVP award

Calvin Abueva of San Sebastian officially claimed the Most Valuable Player award of the 87th NCAA men’s basketball season. The 23-year-old Abueva emerged as the best player in the league after averaging 21.5 points, 13.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 20 games as he was given the plum during the awarding ceremonies just before Game 1 of the NCAA championship. Abueva, Ian Sangalang of San Sebastian, Kevin Alas of Letran, Garvo Lanete of San Beda and Raymond Almazan claimed the Mythical Five awards. Joshua Nimes of Mapua took home the Rookie of the Year award while Almazan gained the Most Improved Player Award. Sangalang, meanwhile, annexed the Defensive Player of the Year award. In the juniors, Rey Nambatac of Letran took the MVP honors. Nambatac, along with Sidney Onwubere of Emilio Aguinaldo College, Ivan Villanueva of Letran, Von Abatayo of San Beda and Aldrin Serafica of Letran formed the Mythical Five selection. Lugie Cuyos of EAC won the Rookie of the Year, Francis Abarcar of San Beda captured the Most Improved Player award.
