SEA Games: Flores avoids shutout for PHL bets, wins wall climbing gold
On the second day of active competitions in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games when gold medals seemed to elude Team Philippines, wall climber Ina Flores prevented a shutout as she nailed a gold medal in the womenâs wall climbing boulder event Sunday night at the Jakabaring Sports Complex in Palembang, Indonesia. Flores, the top wall climber in the country after claiming the gold medal in this yearâs Philippine National Games in Bacolod City, topped the event with Watchareewan Tomas of Thailand settling for the silver medal. Chung Sue Ann of Indonesia claimed the bronze. Floresâ gold salvaged the countryâs campaign after winning four mints on the first day. The closest the Philippines went from claiming gold medals Sunday came from aquatics, particularly in swimming and diving. Jessie Khing Lacuna settled for the silver medal in the 200m freestyle clocking one minute, 52.53 seconds in the event won by Singaporean Yeo Kai Quan (1:51.07). Dorothy Hong clinched a silver in the 200m backstroke checking in at 2:17.32 with Yessy Yosaputra of Indonesia capturing the gold with a time of 2:15.73. Jaime Asok and Rexel Ryan Fabriga placed second in the 10m platform sync scoring 344.51 points but bowing to Indonesiaâs Muhammad Nasrullah and Luthfi Niko Abdill for the gold after tallying 378.12 points. Sheila Mae Perez and Ceseil Domenios settled for the bronze medal in the 3m springboard sync after scoring 243.12 points in the event. Pairs from Malaysia and Indonesia placed first and second respectively. Karatekas Erica Celin Samon, Mae Soriano, Jayson Ramil Macaalay and Ronnel Balingit captured bronze medals in their respective kumite events adding to the output of OJ Delos Santos in the menâs individual kata. - KBK, GMA News
