SEA Games: Ex-world champ Bustamante settles for bronze in 9-ball billiards
Former world titlist Django Bustamante settled for the bronze medal on Saturday in the 26th Southeast Asian Games' 9-ball billiards event at Jakabaring Billiard Arena in Palembang, Indonesia. Bustamante, the 2010 World 9-Ball champion, dropped a 9-3 decision to Indonesian bet Ricky Yang in their semis match. Yang, who lost to Filipino bet Dennis Orcullo in the 8-ball finals, will face compatriot Irsal Nasution, a 9-2 winner against Vietnam's Do The Kien, in the gold-medal match. In archery at Jakarta, Jennifer Chan and Earl Yap, hounded by deductions absorbed for rules infraction, failed to salvage the bronze in mixed compound team, losing to an Indonesia tandem. Under tournament format in team competition, archers are supposed to alternate hitting one arrow each timeâsomething Chan and Yap failed to observe by shooting two arrows each round. Indonesia (133-106) is the virtual overall champion with only 142 gold medals to be contested but Vietnam (78-71-88) and Thailand (74-71-88) are still in a tug-of-war for second as Malaysia (45-43-61) is becoming more comfortable at fourth. â JVP, GMA News
